History

2015 marked our 35th anniversary of Great Lakes Scale Company.  From our humble beginning in the family home, Great Lakes Scale Company has grown into our current offices in Harrsion Twp., Michigan; Alpena Michigan; and most recently Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Serving Southeast Michigan, including the Great Metro Detroit area. Founder, Richard A. Kothe of Detroit, Michigan, an experienced service technician, went off on his own in 1980 to provide the excellent service we now know today as Great Lakes Scale Company. From the family van, we have grown to having a fleet of service vehicles, including specially designed diesel test units with their own weight buggies for those extra heavy tests. In 2014, Richard A. Kothe retired handing the family business down to Richie M. Kothe, his son, who has worked at Great Lakes Scale Company since he was 14.  Then, and now, Great Lakes Scale Company has been an industry leading scale company that provides 24 hour quality service to our customers along with many other services.
